"When in doubt, zoom out."
I don't remember where I first read this but I love this combination of words because you could replace 'doubt' with almost anything that is uncertain and the statement would still stand true.
Zooming out and seeing the larger picture is hard to do but it is almost always worth it.
From a point of feeling utterly disappointed to seeing that it's a part of the story, to being able to connect dots better - zooming out is a rare but useful skill. The future becomes so easily predictable when you zoom out.
This is largely why uncertainty doesn't scare me - what looks uncertain to the rest of the world often looks perfect to me. The inherent risk of being overly cocky might be a side-effect but I think I'll learn my lessons along the way.
Here's a song to listen to, while you read the rest of this (I'm stealing this suggestion from a friend):
I was sitting at the airport when I was reading, what was at the time, the last thing left to read on my Instapaper queue. It was a wonderful short story called 'the fisherman & the banker' - a light, short, funny read about perspective. I'll link you to it instead of spoiling it for you: https://www.samuelcheong.com/the-fisherman-and-the-banker/
You should read it, I'm sure you'll like it.
I always feel like I am in a transitional period of my life, I think I now understand that I'm never going to stop feeling like that. Everytime I think about what's going on, I feel like I'm transitioning - and that's ok, I love change, maybe a little too much.
Have a good Sunday.
Love,
sif.
